Brake Light (Warning Light)

FML... another day another problem. Posted this on the FB group but wanted to hear from those here as well.

This morning on my way to work my brake light (warning light on dash) came on with my foot on the brake and It went off every time I let off the brake. When I parked I was playing with the pedal and noticed it soft at first and light doesn’t come on right away until the padel gets harder. Didn’t see any leaks from quick look under hood and under truck. Some suggestions from the FB group were brake booster, MC, or maybe even pads/shoes?

Here's a video...

Is the master full of fluid?
Rear brake shoes adjusted as well?
If that checks out OK did you do any work on the system?
Could try and bleed the brakes but 1 side of the system is not getting the same psi and that valve is moving to turn on the lught.

I've never done any work on the brakes and that would certainly be a new adventure... I had an issue with a bad break line last winter and had a shop repair it. Hadn't had any issues until now.

Check the fluid & adjust the rear brakes and see what happens.

There are only two things that can make that light come on;

1. The switch on the proportioning valve and

2. The switch on the parking brake mechanism.

I would first disconnect the wire on the proportioning valve, and see if the light goes away. If it does, then you can look into the brake system more closely. If it still lights up you know there is something wrong with the parking brake mechanism.

Thoughts? Not sure what is considered low or what brake fluid should look like.

Will disconnect the proportioning valve wire next chance I get to see what that tells me.

That small one looks a little low and both look muddy.
Have you gone thru the brakes yet?
If not now may be a good tine to do that and flush that mud out.

As for the wire on the Ebrake pedal assy. does your truck have one?
I ask because my truck (81 F100) does not have one.
I hear there is a hole to mount one but where would you get a wire to hook to it?
Also I think if it had a light it would say "park".

I think the switch in the parking brake pedal assembly began in 1984.
