Ive got a 1990 bronco ii 4x4 with the 2.9l and a4ld in it. The engine has recently started to sputter really bad while I am driving. I haven't noticed any correlation between rpms and the sputtering, but It does seem to be affected by my throttle position. at very light throttle, the engine runs smoothly, and at wide open throttle, it seems to run pretty good as well. But anywhere in between, I will start to get this awful sputter, It sounds like the engine is only running on 3 cylinders or something.
The spark plugs and wires, then the fuel pump and filter are all new.
This is more of a screw around vehicle for me, so I havent gotten around to putting a real exhaust system on it yet (previous owner cut it off due to clogged cat) So with how loud the truck is, I can really hear and feel the sputter.
I am not getting any engine codes either, the check engine light does come on intermittently while I am driving, though. But it always goes away when I am stopped or idling, so I cant really scan for it.
