See the pic, but long story short I hit the corner of the rocker box with a grinder and put I small nick in it. My plan is just a little black RTV and hopefully the along with the new valve cover gasket should seal it. Also it will be located on the drivers front towards the bottom.
Unless you want to take it apart and get it welded, that's your option. Ideally, I would use Ford's silicone for diesels, but if it doesn't work it's just the cover needed to be removed.
I have had good luck repairing similar with 3M Scotchweld DP420 or JB weld. I scuff the damaged area, clean with Brakleen, apply the epoxy, allow to fully cure, then file & sand to original shape after curing. Good luck, Russ
If I remember correctly the Ford sealant is made by Permatex, might even be the same as Ultra Grey which is lower viscosity than Ultra Black for tighter clearances...both OEM specified.
No, not the same. When I researched it it uses a different silicone formulation specifically designed for HPOP diesels that won’t leach silicon into the oil and potential foaming. It’s a Navistar/Ford item only, and a high price for that property. Grey, is not grey.
Now how much of an issue will a small amount of standard RTV cause ..... unknown.
JB weld industrial epoxy. Let it sit over night! Use a file to dress it down. I watched someone use it on a block that burned between cylinders, due to a fixed timing distributor. The block held up for the rest of the race season. Approximately 8 weekends of racing.

Very interesting. I also realized I got the viscosity for Ultra Grey backwards...it is more viscous not less. I know cure times are important, seen a lot of people get impatient and not allow for the instruction specified cure time.
In some thread here when we talked about RTV’s I think I posted the different types in a chart.
i was going to use the Permatex versions due to the costs until I remembered the detail about the silicone from my 7.3 days.
This was after I used the anaerobic sealant often recommended for the lower gasket seals as a skin coat. That was a bad move when I decided to reopen the bottom end and discovered it doesn’t cure in the application.
