I have a 1986 F-150 4x4 with a 4.9 six in it. Mid mounted tank.
The sender unit failed years and years ago ... before I even got the truck.
Finally thinking about fixing it (in 5 years I have run out of gas twice).
So, I went on RockAuto ... nothing listed.
Tried a Ford dealer site ... listed one but it had a pump in it. Since I have a carburetor and an old style mechanical fuel pump, I would not think I have a pump in tank. Plus it was listed as discontinued.
Does anyone have a part number and where I can find a sender unit (and I assume the locking ring will be rusted away)?

OK ... just one more dumb question ..... how will I know what tank I have? Since there is only 2 gallons difference I am guessing they look very similar.
Would the truck VIN number help?
I don't think the tank has ever been out (33 year old truck)d.
I did sneak my hand on top of the tank last year .... grounded the tank sending wire and it the gauge moved so I know it is the sensor that is dead.
Thanks ..... Mike
PS .... wonder what the thinking was to have two tanks so close to the same size?
The flare side trucks are short bed's and it was even harder to find.
I think I got mine thru A1 Auto and IIRC they listed one for the 19 gallon tank also.
Also note the 19 gallon rear / aft axle tank uses a different sender.
