The power to run the starter must go through the solenoid. Pull the slip on wire off the solenoid and if the starter quits, you are getting power from the ignition switch when you shouldn't. If pulling that small slip on wire off doesn't stop the starter, the solenoid is sticking internally, usually you can tap on the solenoid and the solenoid will release and the starter stop. With the latter you need to replace the solenoid.
