Sluggish off the line

I just picked up a 2003 Expedition. I’ve had the 5.4 in an ‘03 f159 and in an ‘04 f250. But the expedition seems very sluggish to get going from standstill. I let of break and stomp on pedal and it doesn’t jump, no chirping of tires and just seems to be at loss of power before it gets above 2000rpm. I held break down and gave full pedal and it barely climbs a couple hundred rpm. I’ve done this with both my f159 and 259 with same motor and the tires would chirp (I know the back of pickup trucks are lighter) and would just jump. It almost feels like I’m starting off in 2nd gear or in a traction setting that limits power to wheels like “snow” setting on some newer cars. I manually put trans in both 1st and 2nd and ran the gears all the way through rpm. Shifts were smooth and gears def work. I haven’t had chance to get under it but I’m going to. Any ideas what this could be and where to start looking? Or is this normal? I’m going to start with checking air filter and cleaning MAF sensor. I’ll likely be changing coils because it has 200k mikes on it. But I’d like some tips and guidance in what to look for before I just start replacing things. Thanks!

Check the fuel pressure at the rail. You should see 45-55 psi . Read for any codes stored. You don't need to replace the coils unless you're getting misfire codes. Clean the throttle body out. Air filter good ? Do you have a reader that'll read tranny codes ? How's the tranny fluid look ? Should be bright red. Do you have ForScan in your phone or laptop ? Good on Fords for all codes.

What about spark plugs since the change interval is 100K?

Yeah definitely spark plugs.

Also, it's heavier in back, and has a shorter wheelbase so romping on it puts more weight on the rear tires. It's probably also geared a little taller. I believe the Expedition runs a little lower tire pressure than the F150, so a little more contact patch.

Most important: Your 2003 Expedition also has independent rear suspension, so it doesn't try to unload the right-rear tire when you romp on it (or left-rear if you romp in reverse because you really want to break stuff).

I'd call it normal. Do the maintenance stuff anyways.
