How far do you go?

My 1999 Expy with 5.4L Engine's tachometer only goes up to 6K, but it does not have a red line area on it. I am just wondering, when you drive, how far on the tach do you go with your Expy? I would say I normally stay around 2 to 2.3K normally, but If I am on the highway and first in line, I like to take off at a somewhat overdoing it pace. I never go petal to the metal, but I will push it up around 3.5-4K and let her scream. Don't lie and say that you don't push your truck and are a very nice driver, we all push our engines, and I just want to see what everyone else does. I won't lie, I did push it up to 5K once because some punk next to me decided that his explorer was the **** and started revving at me. I didn't race him or anything, but when the light turned green I lit up his V6 econobox.

PS I am a 17 year old boy, throw some hate at me if you feel like it.

Because you asked us to be, I'm going to tell you like it is for me. Typically, I try to keep my rev's below 3k on a day to day basis. However, if I need to accelerate onto a freeway, I will put the pedal to the floor and let the trans & electronics handle the rest for me. I think mine shifts around 4700 at WOT. The Expeditions are a heavy vehicle and I need all the oomph I can get to get mine moving at times. When I am towing my boat (4500lbs) through sections of NY State on I-81, especially Cortland, the highway is very hilly. The engine is often up around 4k for 1/2 a mile or so while pulling those grades. I cringe when the trans downshifts, because I know the engine is going to start screaming. But, it's never hic-cupped or missed a beat, so I don't worry about it.

I don't race my Expy or rev it up. When those times arise, I pull my '69 Formula-S Barracuda out of the garage and go terrorize the neighborhood. My Expedition is my daily driver and it's been a VERY reliable and dependable vehicle. Treat them with care and they will return the favor for a long time, as well. Beat the snot out of them, and your reliability & dependability factor starts to diminish over time. Just my $0.02.

I'm not scared to rev out the wife's 03 Expy one bit, and she does it too! The shift point is somewhere just over 5 grand, can't remember exactly. It's all computer controlled. If something breaks, god forbid, the engine has a rev limiter so it won't over rev. I've even power shifted into second racing a Tahoe, or some other big suv. Obviously that's something I rarely do as the Expy is a 6000 lb family hauler, not a racer.

I have a 99 eddy and I keep it around 2-2.5 for every day driving, but to go to my folks place I need to go over Wolf Creek Pass, and I will put into 2nd gear and it will get up to 4ooo rpm during that 10 mile up hill. I will leave it in 2nd going down also. It seems to do ok with it as it never seems to miss a beat. I agree with ExrySport tho if I am in a racy mood i take out the vet. A 6000 pound truck is just not a racy hot rod.
