Hey guys, I'm new to this forum so first off I thought I would say hello! I have been a lurker for many years, but now that I bought a Ford truck, it is time a make an account! To start off with, I purchased a 2003 Eddie Bauer 4wd Expedition with the 5.4l. It has 150,000 miles and looks to be in pretty nice shape. It drives well, smooth acceleration and shifts, and so far the computer is noting around 13-13.5mpg for all city driving, which seems decent for a vehicle this size. I searched the web, and it seems the 0-60 for this vehicle should be right around 9.5-10 seconds. However, when I went to test it it took just shy of 13 seconds to reach 60! . I have no idea what might be causing this loss of power, as there are no codes. This seems like too big of a decrease to ignore. I tried cleaning the MAF, replaced the air filter, and cleaned the throttle body, but still clocked in at 12.8 seconds. Also, the tires are all filled to spec. My next move is to change the fuel filter. I'm considering doing the spark plugs, but could old spark plugs (changed 50,000 miles ago) really make that much of a difference? It just stumps me because the mpg's are still great, however there is a large lack of power, and the two wouldn't seem to go together. I'd appreciate any help you guys can give me!
I thought something was wrong with mine when I got it but it runs fine and my mpg is the same as what you're getting. They're just not that quick. What gears do you have? What size tires? Those will make a pretty big difference. I'll try and clock my 0-60 when I get a chance. I've got 3.73's and 285 70/17's.

9.5-10 seconds when new or when it has 160K on it?
What octane gas was used?
For starters you could try running 93 octane and then retesting your speed. This will keep the timing a bit more advanced, but also keep it down to a 1/4 tank when testing, the extra weight of a full tank will slow you down. Another variable to ponder is your elevation above sea level. The higher you are the thinner the air and the less HP the engine outputs.
As you can see, there are many variables that can and will affect performance. The only way to rate your truck against others is to make sure the conditions are as similar as possible. Your 13 seconds might be just right for both the area you're in and the age of your truck.
I tried to time mine and it laughed at me.....I'll give it shot with my OBD reader plugged in and the timer set up on my iPad. We'll see what happens.....

That's true...for now I'm just going to change the spark plugs, and be happy I'm still getting good mileage.

Let me know! I'm curious to see what others are at
