While on a recent hunting trip I picked up a very healthy pack rat, he's living the good life in the whole undercarriage of my truck.
In the past I've used" just one bite" rat and mice poison but this guy is eating it like a main course dinner. Knock on wood he hasn't damaged anything yet, been about 10 days. I'm going to get a large rat trap today.
Any suggestions on getting this little sob?
Thanks
Talking to a neighbor earlier today from Missouri, back in the day he used Yellow fly bait for coons and skunks, well of course you can't get it in the fruitloopstate I live. But did find some similar at tractor supply .. we'll see.
If this works I'll post it up.
This little sob is smarter than me for sure but he's gonna lose if I have to drive to Missouri and get YELLOW FLY BAIT !!
I use 416BigBor's method very effectively for chipmunks. But better than peanut butter, I put black sunflower seeds in. Any pet or bird-feed shop has them. Do like me and ask the 16 year-old working there, where they keep the chipmunk bait. You'll get a real puzzled look.
The 5 gal. bucket method even works well in the winter months. If you don't have any pets to worry about, just add antifreeze to the water. Poison bait works, the only thing I don't like is the little SOB will go some place and die and start stinking. Nothing worse then a dead mouse in your heater duct.
Thanks NoelCT, upon inspection this morning the critter did not touch the peanut butter and jelly fly poison *****.
On top of the fan shroud there's a very thick yellow brown urine.
According to the just one bite website it takes 4-5 days to kill rats.
I'm encouraged by the urine sample.
Thanks BB94,
The good news is the sob is dead the bad news is I don't know where.
My Lab has been going nuts trying to get this guy for the last week been all under and around the truck, today no interest what so ever.
Thank you all for your suggestions, some I will use in the future.
I had pack rats infest my explorer and chew the wiring under the hood to bits. Wires, spark plug wires, heater hoses, hood insulation, etc. They love the taste of black coated wires. Not sure why, but it is their favorite. Got it all patched back together and they got in there again! Bat rastards!
Fortunately I haven't found any damage except a little insulation around my battery and pee and poop.
There's only a couple things I like less than vermin.
Yes! Spoon of peanut butter and jelly mixed with oatmeal and poison.
Make several 1" dough ***** so they eat the whole thing at once.
You can also dissolve with coca cola
And other critters like flies or wasps drink it and "supposed" to be instant death for flying things.
SERIOUS WARNING, KEEP AWAY FROM PETS !!
