I had pack rats infest my explorer and chew the wiring under the hood to bits. Wires, spark plug wires, heater hoses, hood insulation, etc. They love the taste of black coated wires. Not sure why, but it is their favorite. Got it all patched back together and they got in there again! Bat rastards!
In the '90's several manufacturers experimented with wire insulation made from soy plants. Another stupid knee-jerk environmental failure! I don't know if Ford used it or not, but it wasn't a good idea so far as rodents were concerned....
