OK guys, I have searched and cannot find my answer, so here goes. My A/C compressor is not spinning. Air gap was .045, re-shimmed to .025, still won't kick in. Recently had the system topped off by my mechanic, added about 24 oz. Was blowing cool before, now nothing. And it hit 106F here yesterday, which totally blows (but not cold)! What do I look for?
If u could check charge with gauges, otherwise jump pressure switches one at a time with paperclip, if u jump low and it runs, but not blowing cold, would say low on freon. After checking clutch coil.
Thanks guys, will try to get to the connector today after some honey do's. Where can I get a diagram of the AC system? I can't seem to find a schematic or full diagram anywhere for this.
Start by checking the system's static pressure. Sounds like you have a substantial leak and the odds are high that your recent refill has also leaked out. If there isn't sufficient refrigerant in the system, the low-pressure cycling switch will disable the compressor clutch.
If you do not have a pressure gauge, a quick jumper of the low pressure switch's harness connector can be done to see it the clutch pulls in. If it does, either the switch is bad or the system is too low on refrigerant. If it does not pull in, then there's another issue, either electrical or mechanical to be diagnosed.
