I am about due for some new tires on my 2019 F350(45k miles) and will be replacing them before winter hits. I’d like to get some beefier rubber in the wheel wells, while staying with the stock 20” wheels. I really like the look of them, and not looking to drop the cash for new wheels. In doing some research, it seems that a 35x12.5x20 will fit, with the stock suspension and wheels, without rubbing or causing problems. My question is that pretty much every 35x12.5 I like has a load rating of 121(126 OEM) and max psi is 65. Does this decrease in load capacity cause anybody any issues with towing stability? I tow a 24’x8.5’ enclosed car hauler about half the time, that weighs in at 5-10k lbs depending on what I’m hauling that week. I don’t want to end up with a tire that can’t handle the side loads of towing the trailer on the interstate.
Look at the load rating in lbs on tire manufacturer specs. When you get into flotation tire sizes load rating tends to go down with certain tires even though rating letter stays the same.

Yeah, that’s what I’m getting at, the load rating is lower. The stock size 275/65/12 are rated at 3,750 lbs and the 35/12.5/20 are at 3,197 lbs. I want to make sure that lose in rating doesn’t also mean a softer tire that won’t hold up under the truck.
I ran some lower D rated on my Ram Diesel but they had the same weight rating as stock. Only problem is the sag wasn’t equal so had to run a lot more pressure up front. Towed fine.
If you are worried 285/65/20 are the same height as 35x12.50. They come in proper e rating and arent too wide for the stock rim.

I’ve narrowed it down to either the Goodyear Duratrac or General Grabber ATX, and they don’t offer those in 285 or 295/65 for a 20” rim. I’m somewhat on the fence with the BFG KO2, which does come in a 285/65, but they seem to get mixed snow/ice reviews compared to the other two. I drive a lot of highway miles, so a dedicated winter tire won’t hold up, but need something good in the slick stuff because I usually don’t have a choice but to drive in it.

Check out the Wildcountry XTX or Falken wildpeak at3w. Both triple snowflake winter tires. I ran the wildcountry and my father had ran them for years. They are a great tire and have a decent tread warranty. Falken wildpeak at3w get great reviews as well.

Duratrac in a 325/60/20 has the heavier weight rating. Thats what I'm running on my 250 with a 2.5" leveling kit. They are basically an oversized 35x12.5x20 with the heavier weight rating, I think they are actually like a 35.5x13x20. They get rather expensive though. Mounts best on a wheel at least 9 inches wide. Not sure about clearance on a F350 with no lift on stock wheel, I would think it would be close.
I'm actually going to a 325 60 20 on my leveled F250. I'm between a Falken Wildpeak AT3 or Toyo Open country ATii. They carry a very high weight rating. Just sent back some defective Ridge Grapplers. They were 35 12.50 20's. But I'm running a Fuel 20x9.
I personally like the look of the 325 on these trucks.
I loved the Duratracs on my 2500HD but they wore out pretty fast. I never achieved 40,000 miles. They were pretty noisy too and when they got down to the last 25% they were slippery in the rain.... although still good in snow. Best tires I ever drove in snow. I also believe Cooper has a few tires in 295/65/20. And the very popular Nitto Ridge Grapplers.
Toyo is always an option if you want a higher rated 35x12.5. They are load range F and rated for over 3800lbs at 65 psi.
Anybody have experience with any Toyo Open Country tires in snow? They have 35x12.5 and 295/65 with good weight ratings, but the few reviews I can find seem to say they are either great in snow or terrible. Not sure so many can think they are great and so many think they are terrible at the same time. I was looking at the CT and AT2.
I've got the 295/65/20 Toyo Open Country AT2 on my 2017 f250 CCLB. I find them great in the snow, including with my snowmobile trailer behind me. The only disappoint I've had in them is the ability to clear mud. So I'm looking at my old favorites - the BFG ATs.. hoping they do actually come out with a 295/65/20 this fall like is rumored. But if I didn't have the mud issue, I'd definitely stick with the Toyo. Great tread life so far - I'm going to get at least 35k out of them, and maybe 40.. Road handling is great. Noise is fine.
Staying stock 20 inch wheels,...go 35x11.5 rather than 12.5. The 12.5 has that tire is too wide for the rim goofy look. The 12.5 will fit, to answer your question.
