Front Lower Shock Mount Size?

Hi all,
On my 1990 F-250, 7.5L, 4x4 my front lower shock mount is too small for the new shocks I bought. The upper mount is 1.5" and the lower is just under 1-3/8"
Bilstein says they're the correct shock and that maybe they just need to be bent outward but this is some chunky steel!
See here:

Also, the parts are pretty expensive if i want to replace them.
I can bend em no problem. My question is: should I bend em?
and Do you have any better ideas?

I had the same issue on the rear passenger side of mine with the Bilsteins. Repairing guns, I learned It is always better to work on the part than the main object. Therefore I ground down the sides of the shock bushings and washer to make it fit. Worked out fine and no problems. If you find you need more space, you could grind some off the insides of the bracket. I wouldn't try bending or heat. Sandy

I guess i'm just hesitant to mess up my brand new shiny shock instead of my old rusty part.

But then again, a shock bushing is pretty cheap vs anything else!

Ultimately I decided to shave them down.
The part on my truck is correct I think. The new ones measure the same.

0.065 taken off each side

In case anyone notices, yes I milled the wrong end
My existing shocks were installed boot up so I figured that was correct but I checked w/ Bilstein: boot goes down!
I made some spacers for the top so hopefully it won't rattle around too bad.

Good going. Gotta have some oops moments every now and then. With the spacers you should be fine and no rattle. Sandy
