56 Shock Mounts Question
I searched and saw alot of discussion about limited shock selections for post-post type shocks....My truck was lowered by prev. owner and there are some Gabriel shocks that seem to be sized correctly but they are not the suggested units for a 56. (leaking badly...so maybe not sized just right) I may be able to get replacements but the fact that I have pulled a couple leaves from my front springs means that the replacements might be too long for the application. I saw NoLimit and Mid50 have a plate that bolts to the axle allowing for a eye type lower mount.
If I go that route, does it extend the shock length a bit? I think I can get some eye-post shocks from Doetsch or Bilstein.
Not sure I want to lop off the upper mounts and go to a top mount eye.
Would love to hear some real world advice....
Thanks,
Bryan
I could go with the No-Limit plate setup and upgrade to a Bilstein or Koni.
The advantage would be longer shock / more travel.
It is reasonably cheap, I am just curious if there is much benefit with the stock springs, sounds like your vote is yes.
Thanks !
I`m really sorry I did not see your last post on this thread until just now.
RE: the old shocks. They were original stock shocks. In my opinion, when
you lower your truck, it renders them pretty much useless. The main change
at the time, was making the new shock mounts. The upper mount can be made
to mount the shock as high as you want. You may want to check the different shock
travels. I have installed the down and forward front springs from MID FIFTY, and am
very happy with them. With the down and forward springs and the Bilstein shocks
I am very happy with my ride. Again I`m sorry I hadn`t seen your above post until now.
Better late than never? Good luck with your project.
Gary
