Service history...trans, xfer case, diffs etc...Fluids ever been changed?
Have you dropped the trans, xfer case and diff fluids looking for evidence of failure(chunks)? If not thats where Id start after verifying what Mark said.
When and how did the trouble occur...at 90mph or backing out of the driveway? 4 wheeling or normal commuting?
Could be anything from a bad diff, snapped axle, ring/pinion. broke trans or xfer case to your e brakes getting munched up(if 99 has disc rears).
