I purchased a 2004 F350 to pull a boat that I also just purchased. I quickly realized that I need a set of eyes on the hitch when hooking up. My previous boat was a 21' bass boat which I only needed to get somewhat close to, then I could move the boat and trailer over to the hitch and be on my way. With this new boat, I need to get right under the hitch or damn near it as there is not a lot of I can do to get the hitch down on the ball.
So need to get something to be able to view things as reversing. I started a thread on the "The Hull Truth" forums on this which there was two schools of thought:
Install a new head unit that can accept input from a reverse camera and add a camera
Get something independent that is dedicated to a reverse camera
I would be fine with either, but I am curious about opinions from others.
I had a wireless camera that was installed at the license plate. It was from Peak, the same folks that make the engine coolant. It worked well but required a separate screen. Some of the newer cameras can display on your phone.
I picked up a 7" Haloview MC7108 and Furrion mount adapter for my travel trailer. I also picked up the CA109 wireless camera for over the license plate. I have the backup camera wired to the reverse lights, and I will probably do the same for the monitor, with an override switch for using the trailer camera on the road. So far I leave the monitor mounted to the dash on the EX, but I can remove it easy enough when I need to.
PS. If you wear polarized sunglasses to drive don't pull the cover off of the monitor.
