1981 F150, flareside bed, 300 I6. This piece was under the bed near the fuel fill, not sure what it was for. I haven't been able to find something that looks like it in any of the aftermarket parts catalogs or service manuals. Any thoughts on what it could be?
Kind of looks like a repair piece. Can you tell if the sheets of rust on the inside are from that part, or if there was another part that was slid over?

Stepside is a Chevrolet.
Pic: E100/350 is an Econoline. Body style 81 is a Cab & Chassis, body style 83 is a Flareside, body style 99 is a Styleside, U150 is a Bronco.

It doesn't look like it was on or over anything else, just bolted up by itself under the fuel filler area.
Bet it was in the left front corner under the bed right?
It was a factory part but no one could tell us what it was for and IIRC dose not show up in the factory bed body book but others have seen it also.

Yep, That "thing" was on the three Flareside beds I have, Brought this up in a thread years back, there is no documentation on it, But Ford did install it.....and actually there are specific holes in the bed where this mounted too. LMC probably uses "Stepside" for better search results.. Even though its a Code (83) Flareside.
