I changed the oil two days ago and it was starting and driving fine. Last night I left from a stop sign and it started missing out and shaking. I shut it off and it wouldn’t start back up. I started it this morning and it idled for a minute then shook real hard and died. Trying to find out what my issue is
What oil did you change to? How many miles were on the oil at the last oil change? How long since the last fuel filter change? Any recent maintenance work other than the oil change?
Do you have something to pull codes with? It might also help to check engine parameters when cranking.
If you don't have anything, you can download ForScan Lite to a smart phone. You would also need an ELM327 OBDII adapter (I use a WiFi for the apple phones and BlueTooth for Android and I like the BAFX brand.)
I put motorcraft 15w40 in it, 5k since last oil change. Before this it was having problems starting hot. I would have to let it sit for a few hours in order to run it again, I changed the oil thinking dirty oil might have something to do with it. It ran and started just fine but last night it acted like it gave up
The fact you were having problems with a hot start tells me there is a good chance you have a HPO leak somewhere, that has gone from no hot start to basically no start period.
As Mark asked earlier, do you have something to check things like IPR and ICP?
You are going to need it.
If this were my truck, I would probably start with an air leak test. Tons of info here and elsewhere how to perform that.
I would almost bet it's an STC fitting being it's an 07, but am curious how many miles are on the truck?
As Mark mentioned as well, anything done that you are aware of by the PO?
I’ve got nothing to check it at the moment, but by the end of the day I will. I pulled my icp and it had a little oil on the outside but wasn’t soaked. It’s got 109k on it. And the only thing done to it that wasn’t done by me was straight piped but never plated off, so I have a little white smoke when I start it then it’s gone fast.
Would the HPOP make the truck die at a stop sign though? I went to pull away after I drove it for a while and it started rocking and shaking and then died
Yes, no HPOP will make it not run period. The HPOP is the heart of any 6.0, literally.
That being said, what I meant was an HPO leak, or High Pressure Oil leak.
Once you get something to read ICP and IPR data live while cranking I think will shed some light on things.
