straight 6

replacing fuel pump on my straight 6 f250 300 cid 1971 camper special, there are 2 types of 6 cylinders for this truck, 3.9(240 cid?) and 4.9(300 cid?), how can i tell the difference visually? and are the mechanical fuel pumps the same? also anyone recommend a long lasting brand?

You cannot, both look identical.

240/300 share the same block, the bore is the same, the stroke is different. Measure the stroke to ID which size engine it is.

1968/72 F250/350 Camper Special package included the 300 I-6, 360 and 390. 240 was not available in any 1965/74 Camper Special.

Ford did not use liters to designate engine sizes until 1980. 240 cancelled at the end of the 1974 model run.

If you pull the valve cover of & there is an large "A" cast in the valve spring area as in in the picture it is a 240 head. If you are the original owner you would know if it is the original head & block.
