Under G, what does Automatic Ford mean for the tranny ? Ford is the name given to the tranny ? I guess what I'm getting at is if someone asked "What tranny do you have?", you just say Auto Ford ? Hope this makes sense.

Under G, what does Automatic Ford mean for the tranny ? Ford is the name given to the tranny ? I guess what I'm getting at is if someone asked "What tranny do you have?", you just say Auto Ford ? Hope this makes sense.

Thru 1978, the idiots at FoMoCo used the G trans code for all A/T's.
Since G only decoded to "Automatic Transmission," one had to know which trans was available with what engine.
1979: The idiots finally woke up: G = C4 & K = C6.

G being a Ford automatic, it would have to be a C6 for that year. You have a 351M, right?

Only A/T's available in 1979 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline: C4 & C6.
The C4 was used with 300 & 302, but the C6 was also available with these engines.
351M/400/460 = C6.
C4 has 11 trans pan bolts, C6 has 17 trans pan bolts and the shape of the C6 pan resembles the state of Utah.
