SO my wife was determined to seel the new truck last night-- She contacted a dealer- and had a cash offer of $3060.00-- That guy was not there when we arrived-- they looked over the truck- told us how great it was-- how clean how great it drives-- then offered us $2300--- Said that was as High as they Could go-- We told them that they already had given us another offer they were shocked and stunned and said there is no way they could have. UNLESS we traded it in on a new vehicle the they would give us $4000-- I said no then you would be dropping the price of the new vehicle to match what you offered and leave us with little haggling room.
SO I didn't expect much to begin with - but it really pissed me off that the whole bait and switch thing took place. And it wasn't because the truck was pooer quality-- it was better then they expected. They just took the lowest possible price off of Kelly blue book.
Funniest part was the guy said "what vehicle would you want" -- and I said "the rousch mustang out front"-- "O really what are yo willing to spend?" -- I said $1 - he looked confused I said that's where my haggling starts- I might be willing to come up a little. $2-- There I cam up 100 % from my original offer-- How much percentage are you willing to come down on yours?"
For those of you who know me personally -- You know that is exactly what happened :-)
Sounds like a typical conversation during a new vehicle purchase with a run of the mill salesman. Anyone ever tried buying from a non traditional seller- CostCo?
I sold a pickup in the Wheels flyer years ago that you pick up at gas stations etc and had good luck. I'm with the trying to sell it directly. Also, Nextech has a classified that covers most of central and northwest Kansas. It is an online deal. Wheels may have a online option too. Craigslist can work, but you will get so scammers.
The bait and switch deal from a dealer makes you mad, but I would go for the private sale with either cash or I'll meet you at your bank. I might do cashiers check, but we go to my bank and make sure it is legit before transfer.
You probably won't get much for it from a dealer without doing a trade. It is easier, but you'll put more money in your pocket with private sale.
I suspect a dealer wants at least $500-$1000 profit margin and probably more on a vehicle and wiggle room for dealing from what they will list if at.
He told me flat out he would put it on the lot for $5000 and offerend me $2300-- so he is making 113%--- after he told me $3060. Have it on Facebook market place- and Craig's list-- Will put it on Nextech soon.
I know when I listed things on Nextech Classifieds, it seemed like they sold a lot faster and targeted more of a correct audience then when I tried other avenues.
Facebook took away my access to marketplace. I'm bummed. Not sure why they did it either. Oh well, God's way of keeping me from buying stupid stuff maybe.
