Post #12 is a cut and paste from the website Fordification. That website is expert knowledge on 67-72 Fords and he is trying to expand that database of knowledge to other generations of trucks. The VIN is usually stamped on the passenger side under the cab and by the front axle/crossmember. These were human stampings so exact location in those two spots was based on the time of shift and day of the week. To further confuse you, here in Canada it has been suggested that Mercury trucks 61-65 and very early 66 had the VIN stamped on the drivers side while Ford was on the passenger side. My 66 truck that I had in the 90's was 746513 and 66 started at 734000 and I could swear my VIN was on the drivers side. Either way the location had nothing to do with drivetrain as far as I know for the Slick era 61-66 trucks.

Thanks RangerMercMan. The picture is definitely a 1965 or newer with the twin I-beam suspension. I did locate my VIN on the passenger frame rail and it matches the plate on the door, the registration and pink slip. I was actually surprised I didn't notice it while I was cleaning the frame after ripping the old front suspension out and installing the new IFS out of a 1988 corvette. I came across the engineering I.D. number on the outside of the driver side frame rail and had that awful thought that was the VIN after I cut it out of the frame to install the IFS. I saved the cutout chunk of frame with the number stamped on it and will trim it down and weld it back on the frame just ahead of where it used to be. Not necessary, but going to do it anyway. Thanks again for the comments and clarifying info.
Doug
