hi i just rebuit the top end of my 89 bronco EB and didnt really notice the water temp before if it even worked. i have a 302 auto with a 160 thermostat and let it warm up for about 10 minutes and then drove it for a while and the temp never went past the bottom of the N on the guage . it definaely felt warm but this was a temp sensor out of my mustang since the orginal didnt register at all. i tested the guage and when grounded it went full hot. just want to kno3 what range most of you run at normally to see if a real problem exists.
I know I'm not answering your question... but isn't a 160 degree thermostat awfully cold for a fuel injected engine? Isn't it going to stay in open-loop mode for a looooong time, maybe forever during some seasons?
I have the 180 degree thermostat in mine and have no problems whatsoever. Why didn't you just go to an auto parts store and get a new one for less than $3. instead of using a used one ? Just curious.
With my 82 Bronco, 302, manual...the temp gauge never got much past the C. That includes when I lived in Las Vegas with summer temps exceeding 110 degrees. After moving to Reno, the same thing but with winters well below freezing, I didn't get much heat.
I switched to a 205 degree, the temp gauge went to the center position and I got lot's of heat.
thanks for all the replys . i did get a new thermostat but used the temp sensor since i wanted to put one in that i know was good. I have gotten too many bad parts new before. just seemed a little low on the temp guage next to other fords i have
