Fordever, the duraspark is the best dizzy an FE can possibly have. "performance' distributors are a waste of money. They can't do anything your duraspark isn't doing for you right now. If you think the duraspark needs help, get a better coil, get new plug wires and consider replacing the module with a jacobs, crane or MSD box. But keep the Durasprk dizzy. It can be re-curved if you need and the vacuum cans are replaceable too....What makes you think the dizzy is not up to the job ? DF
It want other had said could be a possibilty. The coil is less then a yaer old and i got a brand new ignition module. The wires are fairly new. Ok the truck sometimes backfires and cuts out and sputters on topend and i have a brand new edelbrock 600. Fuel filter is good.
df
i have this weird problem. I can't put much gas in the filler neck and air is in there. I have a edelbrock 600 but i have noticed that the fuel filter empties out. I was watching it tonite while it was idleing and the filter was 90 percent dry and a squirt would come in and so would air. I have a see thru filter. I was worried when very little gas was flowing into the filter. this is probally causing my carb to run lean at times. The filter empties out everytime and truck restarts on whatever gas is in the carbi guess. I need to get the air out of my lines. what to do though?

Kinda strange, my 64 Galaxie has the SAME problem. It even went so far as to quit running once. I had to trailer it home, spent a couple weeks trying to figure out why NO gas was coming up front. Tried a new pump, all new rubber lines, blew thru the steel part of line, removed "sock" from end of pickup tube in tank. NOTHING changed. One day....all is well and has been since last fall. Go figure. I have NO idea what caused it, or what fixed it.
I had that same problem... fuel dissapearing
Except it would empty the carb.
Id suggest what Freightrain mentioned... go thru everything just to make sure
As for dizzys... I got a stock electronic (non points) dizzy for my truck, duraspark box, and a stock "tube" coil, and Accel 8.8mm plug wires... Runs a lot better.
Im thinking of going to a MSD Blaster 2 coil... but I shocked the mess out of myself w/ the stock 30 year old coil so I decided to leave it for now. lol
GOodluck fixing your gas problem
Is it possible the steel fuel lines rusted through and are sucking up air? Or the rubber interconnects...
If you take the output of the fuel pump, and put it into a jar or coffee can, and crank the motor, do you get fuel or air? Trace the leak. Even a small hole in a rubber hose on the intake side of the pump will cause grief.
If you are going to upgrade the ignition, I would suggest the MSD 6A "box" with or without rev limiter and a decent coil. I have the 6AL and a MSD coil that looks like the stock one, but painted red.
Helped cold start and idle, helped cover up the 'lope" of the cam, etc. I use it with a '76 Duraspark, that has the points-style cap and a magnetic pickup.
The MSD box upgrade is nice, but if your looking for a "cheap" fix go w/ a duraspark... if I recall the box ist but 20 bucks and its just as good as a MSD if your using it as street and mild racing
i have already bought a new ignition module and it was $39. But i'm going to buy new lines an replacing it from the tank to the pump with brand new stuff. If that doesn't solve it i will doing something with the tank and filler neck. I believe i'm good from the pump to the carb.
