I would have to disagree that the Duraspark is just as good as the MSD box. The MSD virtually eliminates any chance of a misfire at all RPM's due to the multiple sparks it generates. Also if using any high ouput ignition it is wise to go to the big cap Duraspark type cap and rotor. The factory did this to eliminate ionizing inside the cap which can cause missing( the spark jumps thru the air to the wrong post). The duraspark cap also has a vent to prevent this. I had to install a vent on my point type cap to correct the problem, I now have the big cap on my 428. If you don't think the MSD box is better try finding a friend with one and bypass it temp. to see how it runs without the box. My truck starts hard, idles rough and does not rev as smooth without the box hooked up.
I tried the 6a or whatever the MSD box is that was mentioned.
Ran just as good as the Stock duraspark...
Of course i have electronic distributor, big cap, etc
I think the box may have been going bad tho.
But just for a daily driver... that doesnt turn it real hard and stuff, is it really worth the money?
The much easier starting is a big bonus when the temp's get low, like 0* or less. There are other multiple spark boxes made now, i.e. Crane, Holley, Accel, but there weren't any others when I bought mine. The other brands are good also, I'm sure.
Has anyone see the blaster 3 coils, Ive used many Blaster 2s... I dont see much different in stat wise, but apprearance is a difference.
I have one on the way tho
I put on my new line and i got a sending unit to try. I talked to a old ford guy and he showed me a bent cam eccentric and said that might be a possibilty and he gave me the sending unit. The new fuel didn't do any good.
the msd boxes are awesome...........and if you have to pass smog, their the only way to go............
they also help correct if your running a little rich, which happens sometimes with 4 barrels.
don't think i've ever seen a badly fouled plug when using one either.
if a stock ignition is running well you may not notice a huge power difference, but even in those cases the engine still usually runs better, especially when cold or idling..........i've had an msd 6a box for about 10 years, it's been on sevral cars, and it still making lighting.............
my biggest problem has only been that the 6a with the blaster coil will punch pin holes through stock type wires after awhile............and your boots need to be sealed on the plugs good because you'll get spark leaks.........their strong units.........

Go w/ a MSD blaster, Blaster 2 or Blaster 3
The Blaster 3 I got was only 35 bucks... I got mine Blaster 3 for 15 cuz I had a coupon from Summit...
But even Oreillys and Autozone carries the Blaster 2s for 30 bucks.
