Wondering if anyone knows if you can take an external camera and wire it thru the AUX on the monitor of a truck with the max camera setup...the AUX is there for some reason, just do not know for sure what and how?

If you're going that route, get the trailer TPMS system, too.
The rear camera option is one way to go. But understand that any camera from FORD for the trailer is a wired camera so a wire thru the rig, and a plug at the bumper. It comes as a package. There is another option that adds TPMS for the trailer. It is Rear Camera - Individual Trailer TPMS/Customer-Placed Trailer Camera. It comes in a box and I ordered it as part of the build. I have not installed it yet but I will. I have read that there is an after market kit that changes the plug from the bumper to the box. I personally wanted the TPMS system which is integrated to the screen on the drivers side. The camera integrates to the screen in the center as AUX.

Just called my dealer to see if we can add this to my 2020 F 450 KR order, I do have a CONFIRM on the order so not sure if???
No and the TPMS as this will go on the back of my Truck Camper, no wheels...LOL

Nichols Manufacturing sells the kit to move the 7-pin over 12-pin connector. High quality stuff. I have the kit, camera, and TPMS system on my truck/trailer. Works great and install was not difficult and looks flawless if you take your time.
OP has a 2020 on order. I think you now get the 7-pin over 12-pin connector in the bed when the fifth wheel prep is ordered.
It does not need to be on the build as it is customer installed. You get a box if ordered from factory. The box is not with the truck when delivered and must be corralled from the dealership as it is sent to them. I am sure you can buy this from the parts counter also.

All depends on if he's planning on using it for a trailer or not. If with trailer, then yes, get the TPMS. It's saved my bacon at least once so far when I had a blow-out.
But if he's hooking it up to a truck camper, or maybe a shell over the bed, then no, he doesn't need the TPMS.
Reading his post, he wants to add this to his max camera package. The official name is Rear Camera - Customer - Placed Trailer Camera. So I assume that he is putting it on a trailer although he could wire it up (not wireless), bolt it to his truck, and aim it somewhere else. I just wanted him to be aware of the TPMS for the trailer as both are integrated and a useful safety item.

Got it, thanks!

Set up like this, I just ordered a new Host Mammoth that has 3 slides, aka a 5th wheel in the bed of your truck. Here I am fully loaded out on a trip and it rides level w the AF 1150 which is a heavy unit.
Ok, yep, just need to put the camera on the back, and wire it into the existing connector. You can either get the camera from the Parts counter, or Nichols also sells it:
No idea which is cheaper, I put mine on my order so that I got the X-plan pricing on the option, and built it into our finance options.
One thing to note: The truck always reverts to the tailgate camera when it's put in reverse, not the trailer camera. When backing up the fiver, I put it in reverse, select the camera, and then pick the 'AUX' to see out the trailer's camera instead of staring at my front storage cubby on the fiver. I wish it was smarter to tell the difference when a trailer is connected, but after a few times it becomes almost muscle memory.

There are a lot of things that Ford could do to make our experience with a trailer easier.
Remember Trailer Brake Controller settings for each trailer (this is my #1 request)
Remember Tow/Haul settings for each trailer
Remember Exhaust Brake settings for each trailer
Ability to show the AUX camera at all speeds and gear selections
The system could detect that a trailer is connected (hitched) but the 7 pin (or 4 pin) cable isn't connected. A messages such as "Hey dumbass, did you forget to connect the trailer cable again? What else did you forget?"
The biggest and best thing they could ever do is add a hard drive and record all the cameras to it when the truck is locked and alarmed, and stream it to the cloud for a slight additional fee.

The problem there is that the resolution isn't that great. My Thinkware F800 Pro has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Given what I see on the OEM dash screen, I doubt that the Ford cameras come close to that resolution. To make out a license plate the resolution has to be high.
My Thinkware can upload to the cloud, but I don't use that feature.
