GEM Replacement
I look on e-bay, a find a ton of replacement GEM's (yc3t-14b205-cf). My question is what is this about programming? Almost all of them say it needs to be programmed to the vehicle, but everything I find says dealers will not program them unless they supply the part.......which of course can't happen since this part in not available new any more.
Thoughts/suggestions? Is this something I have to have programmed? If so any idea's from anybody that has done this?
Thanks
I have a 2WD 2000 V10.
My key fobs would work intermittently - programming was not the issue - sometimes they'd work - sometimes not.
I was in the junkyard one day and came across a 2000 V10 4WD Ex. On a whim, I pulled the fuse box and GEM for like $30.
I swapped the GEM - removed my fusebox/GEM combo, removed old GEM, plugged in "new" GEM, reinstalled combo.
Everything works with no reprogramming of any sort other than "brute force" finding my new keypad code.
Get one that matches the PN and description on yours. Both of mine say "Sport Utility with RKE" on the sticker - pic attached.
So mine didn't start with a leaky windshield. Battery died, went to jump it, all seemed fine until then. Since jumping it, there is an electoral smell coming from the GEM and it pops a 5 amp fuse the second it has power. #2 - first row 2nd down.
