This is the instrument cluster.

This could be the indicator.

I thought this was pretty cool too.

Bob I knew the cluster was a Classic instruments Gauge set but have never found the shift indicator. It almost looks like an indicator that’s on top of a later model (70-80ish) steering column.

Could be. It might be something someone pieced together. I know Lokar makes kits too, but not like that. Being curved makes me think it's a bezel from something else.

S in the indicator is for a 4 speed Jetaway Hydra-Matic from a 1956 Cadillac, Oldsmobile 98 or Pontiac Star Chief.

My Dad's 55 Oldsmobile had ''super". As kids, we had all kinds of fanciful notions about the kinds of power enhancing special features that came into play when it was engaged. Did the rear axle ratio somehow change--or did some special jets in the carburetor open up? Our car had something that seemingly other cars didn't have, and growing up, I liked Oldsmobiles--just like the promotion people at Oldsmobile intended. When the Oldsmobile Aurora's came out, I knew I needed to have one. LOL.

Jim

PS My dad traded in a 50 Mercury for a 55 Olds 2dr in about 1956. When it wore out sometime in the late 60's, he bought another 55 Olds with only 17,000 miles from a "little old" lady. When that car wore out in the late 70's, he purchased a 65 Olds 98 LS and drove that for about 10 years. My youngest son has the LS stored in his barn waiting for a point in his life when he has the time and money to work on it.

1940/55 Olds and 1956 Olds 88 without Jetway (it was an option on 88, standard equipment on 98) had no P in the quadrant, reverse was used instead...as it acted as a parking gear.

Both my mom and grandma had new 1955 Olds 88 2dr Holiday hardtops, my dad was an Olds dealer.

I learned to drive on my dad's 55 Olds--That and his CG truck. I much preferred the Olds! We thought it was very fast--much faster than my friend's dad's Buick that was equipped with "dyno-slush" as we called it--No "super" on a Buick!
