The wipers have been skipping since new, on both sides.
I tried cleaning the windshield and replacing the wipers with different brands including the most expensive ones.
Finally a rock broke the windshield and I had it replaced with a new OEM one. Still skipping and the only thing
I have left to replace are the arms and the motor. What can possibly be the issue here? Is driving me nuts.
Never tried cleaning the blade itself, I guess there’s nothing to lose. Never had that problem another 2013 that I have, or any other car for that matter.
Different brans might be the same wiper under a different name. I had this same issue then bought some Goodyear branded ones over at Costco and they've been super quiet, no skipping.
RainX will make it as slick as snot on a doorknob. No more wiper skipping plus you'll use your wipers a lot less. After applying the RainX, wipe the windshield with paper towels then polish with a microfiber towel.
Alcohol will dry them out FAST1 The washing fluids you put in has it in them. Silicone wiped from auto parts houses will help.
Alcohol Cleans them and softens the rubber, probably why the wipers have an Alcohol wipe in them to clean the release agent off of them in the package.
Replaced the wipers with OEM ones and nothing. Replaced drivers side arm and still skips and bad.
The firsts 4 or 5 wipes it won’t skip but after that is horrible. Could it be the wiper motor?
I am a convert to taking vehicles to AutoZone and letting them replace wipers. There are ways to get them not on right and like many things these days - not as easy as it used to be. These guys replace a lot of wiper blades. Get their best Bosch blades. I have those new in past six months on both a 2013 and 2007 F-150. They seem to be fine on both trucks. My 2013 blades were previously replaced at dealer not that long ago, driver's side came completely apart in a bad storm. AutoZone guy said that blade was not installed properly.
"Works OK for 4-5 cycles, then starts to skip"..... Your windshield is too DRY.. Don't run the wipers so fast. Slow down the cycle and let a little rain buildup on the windshield before wiping.
Considering that you live in a hot climate (as I do) you might consider cleaning any embedded residue off your windshield and then treating it with a water-repellant like Rain-x or Invisible Glass spray (or both). A fine clay bar with window cleaner as lubricant will get any contaminants off the glass. Then, with the right water-repellant applied, you may not need to use your wipers as often--the water will bead up and roll right up the windshield as you drive.
lClean your windshield well with 0000 steel wool, clay bar it, then clean it again with a good glass cleaner. The RainX product is good at first, then it builds up and causes problems. I only use RainX on the side and rear windows now because of this.
And I've only found 2 good wiper blades out of all the ones I've tried. The Motorcraft blades and the PIAA blades. All the others, RainX, Michelin, Trico Titan, skipped and chattered after just a month or two.
Also, since these truck are getting older, consider new wiper arms next time you replace the blades. They will help restore the proper contact pressure and angle. I wouldn't replace the wiper motor unless it's malfunctioning.
Have you tried lubricating the pivot pin and spring on each arm. If the pivot starts to lightly seize or stiffen up you may not get full arm pressure on the windshield. I also agree with 0000 steel wool. Just did my 02 truck a few days ago as I got 2K clear over spray on my glass. My brother has a 2011 and swears he'll never use anything but motor-craft blades after having multiple squeaking issues from other blade brands.
Ok, just installed two brand new OEM arms and it still skips. It could be a rain storm and it will still do it.
Had good luck with silicone wipes, they leave a coating on the glass similar to RainX and makes the rain bead up. Run on slow intermittent if you need to and you should be good. I had good luck with my mom’s Grande Marquis years ago that was terrible. Silblade is the brand I use, but there are lots of brands out there now. They also last for years, as long as you don't ruin them with ice on the windshield. I think the Sliblade has a 5 year warranty.
