Slower start time after installing fuel pump

Hello everyone ,after a recent fuel pump and sender change on my 06 5.4 It now takes longer to fire up when cold or siting for more than an hour. Now this isn’t so bad but its summer, come winter it will be hard on everything .
I think it’s a faulty fuel pump check valve ,I have changed the fuel rail pressure sensor and my next move is to check fuel leak down time, does anyone know how long it should hold pressure.
I have seen aftermarket fuel line check valves for sale on amazon, has anyone ever installed one a 2006 with the nylon gas line.I hate the thought of pulling the gas tank again

The fuel pressure is controlled by the FPDM, there is a low pressure check valve in the pump. Was the pump you used OEM? I know others have had similar symptoms with the Airtex and Cardone fuel pumps and ultimately a new OEM pump paired with a working FPDM fixed it.

Thanks for the reply,I used a Carter pump not OEM .Maybe these after market units are not up to snuff and
now I’m stuck with the Carter or a new replacement because they only offer replacement on electrical parts. At a value of $550 Canadian I wish I would have bought the OEM one.
I could replace it or install a check valve if possible and will see what a leak down test shows when the test kit arrives.

I'd replaced that FPDM first, because it's easy and they are prone to failure anyways, especially after putting a new pump in. If that does not solve it, then you need to return that pump for one that works.

Check for leaks

You can lay fuel rails out on dry newspaper ,turn key on see of any drips . Injector leaking is a serious engine destroyer. Check all your work for small leaks / I doubt FPDM is related to this symptom.
That said fuel pumps are a very complicated intense design . I would look at a junk yard one if all else fails .

Thanks for the replies,I got my new fuel pressure tester kit and tested my leak down pressure and the new pump check valve is not holding pressure.
That said I’m returning it for another brand,I’m not happy about pulling the tank again.I will let you know how it works.
