Tried searching but couldn’t find an answer... I have an STX 250 extended cab coming hopefully by October. Just curious if the window tint, especially on the supercab windows, is the same darkness as the higher trims? If not I’ll line up a tint job.
The way I understand it the factory tint has zero UV block. Ive read guys posts from hot states saying they tinted over the factory tint to protect their interior. Ive seen rear windows that appear to have no tint at all and I didnt like the way the black perimeter looked without tint. But I havnt noticed any looking like they had different levels of tint. These trucks do look good when they tint the front windows to match the rears. Unfortunately my state doesnt allow front tint and they love to write tickets for it.
Same here in Michigan. I’d tint the supercab windows, but I’m doubtful I’d do the front doors. Especially since I’m using it for our business... I don’t need an obvious reason to get pulled over.
I would have no reason to think the factory shade on a super cab would be any different than a crew cab. Typically 20% is a close match. If you do decide to put a film on the fronts, I suggest having them hold/place samples on the glass to give you an idea of what it will look like. I had 25 put on the fronts of mine, the manufacturer lists it as being a 28% so I was expecting it to be a little lighter. Looking from the inside out, the factory rears still looked noticeably lighter, from outside in, fronts look lighter. So, I recently had 50% added to the rears to help even the look from inside out. It helped some. My other issue has been color difference between film and factory glass , but I wont get into that.
*Tint bellow, something like 70 or 80% (basically clear) on the fronts is illegal here in California too. I would say 1 in 10 cars have fronts tinted anyway. The lighter it is, the less likely to get cited. A 50% on the fronts, of a good quality ceramic tint, will help cut the heat and block the UV rays. Its not dark enough to add much privacy but should be light enough to avoid being cited.
If it's any help here's 2 pictures of my Crew Cab with the front tint I had applied yesterday compared to the factory tint of the back doors. The rear doors are just a tad darker, the fronts were done with their top of the line (and price) Suntek CIR 20% so in my uneducated guess the factory tint is maybe 15%?

Looks good. SunTek list that film at 24%. Any shots showing the front and rear comparison from the inside out?
Lol, thank you sir. Looks pretty close in that photo. The installer I used gave me qoutes using SunTek and Llumar, in ceramic the only choice he gave me was Llumar. Not sure if that was based on what he stocks, but based on that photo, I may have been happier with the SunTek.
