People have figured out I have an affinity for 90,s Ford trucks.
Now they are just starting to show up in my Yard.
" My dad said you might want this."
Sure.... I will take it.
Just so happens I sold my 94 2wd F250 and need a new winter beater.
i'm from northern New York so I know about rust as well--and I have the same affinity for 90's trucks. I've managed to keep the surface rust at bay but now I see some starting to break through again and I'm torn about whether to fix it. I drive it in the winter when I need to so at some point you just have to acknowledge that the rust will win, right?
Eventually, But keep after it if you can.
I have a 89 F150 that Mechanically is a dream. 4.9 with 106,000 miles 4wd. I love it.
But body wise is a complete wreck.. Literally a Flintstones mobile.
I have been slowly collecting new body parts.
Better cab, door and fenders. Going to turn that one into a good worker.
I still need to address the rocker panels before they get too bad. I have already replaced/ repaired the bedsides, fenders and core support. That salt brine they seem to constantly spray on the roads in the Winter is quickly taking its toll on the frame. I’m not sure how many more years I’ll get out of this truck before I lose the rust war.
The over salting is crazy down this way. Town crews are afraid of getting sued. But, at least I am not driving a new 40K plus truck that will probably rust even quicker!
Nice new truck. Mine was pretty rusty too. Most would've scrapped it but I wanted to save it. I replaced the floors, cab mount supports, rockers, cab corners, inner cab corners, entire bed, fenders, core support, rear wheel arches, tailgate, both bumpers and more. Now I fluid film it every year and I don't drive it during the winter due to all the PA road salt.
I am from VT, live in SC now, but I certainly remember the rust. I think the car makers designed the brine to destroy cars so you have to buy them more often!
I drive a 95 f150 , lived in SC all its life, no rust. Amazing! And when I have to do repairs, stuff just unbolts. I feel like I am on another planet!!
What I did to the last older rigs I had up north, oil undercoat. I know it is messy, and boy is it ever, but, if your rig already has rust, the oil will soak right into it and prolong the inevitable.
Bets bet, don't drive the vehicle you actually like in the winter in the north, buy some chevy or something you don't care about and let that rot!! hahaha
