Sorry, couldn't resist.
Sherms website has a drop-down menu for requesting quotes where the customer indicates the type of plating and finish. I emailed them Friday with photos and I have not heard from them yet, intend calling them Tuesday and since the set is a spare contemplating whether to spend $200 thru the outfit in TN?

Cheddar I believe your truck is a 4x4 which uses different emblems than the 65-66 2whl dr trucks.

Rec'd quote from Sherms Plating today; between $250 and $350 ea. depending upon the condition, this does not include California (trying to exampe when I can afford it) 8% surcharge. If I were going to install the set on my 65 I would certainly consider it but since they are a spare doubtful so if decide to have the set plated Tn is looking better, just need to remember not to polish them on my 2.5 hp bench buffer.

wow....the thing I always try (but fail) to remember when it comes to chrome plating is: No matter how much I know how expensive it is...still be prepared for the sticker shock!

When it comes to chrome, or plating, in general, I remind myself U get what U pay for, either pay for quality work once or re-chrome in a couple of years? Took one of my spare steel 65 grilles and headlight bezels to local powder coat shop to have it coated Wimbledon white, the price was so reasonable I had second thoughts whether to give him my business, pleasantly surprised now I have a local source, too bad, IMO, they have not come up with an acceptable powder coat or anodize chrome color?

Chrome color and chrome = different animals. I was very happy with the work that Sherm's did on my truck and, as you say, it should last the life of the truck (or mine) if I take good care of it. I intended to do this only once...yup and hate a half-donkey job. They did my aluminum grille in chrome and, although, I felt it in the wallet, it looks outstanding!

On my 65 I am contemplating installing the powder-coated Wimbledon white grille and headlight bezel temporarily until I decide which route to take with the aluminum grille. I have a couple of 65 steel grilles and according to a local platter, since it is family workhorse that if I were to chrome either the aluminum or steel grille suggested chroming the steel explaining chrome applied to soft metal grille, in this case, aluminum, possibly more susceptible to marring and dents due to road debris than a steel chrome grille?? If I decide to go with chroming the steel 65 grille probly go with Quality out of San Jose and save cost and hassle of shipping?

Thank you for the input offer's me food for thought?

Dave....I do believe with a steel part, there are less issues such as you describe. I didn't have one, though, I would have preferred it.

Emblems

Dave
I needed to go to town so I took one of my emblems an stopped by the chrome shop that does pot metal parts. He has went up since I was there two years ago. $350 each, show quality, lifetime warranty. Too high for my blood. But here is their card if you are interested. He did say they were going to put in a line to bright dip anodize aluminum some time in the future.

I will give them a call and perhaps if I email them a few photos they can give me a quote. Several years ago took the 65 grille to have anodized but finding due to Ca. (trying to escape when I can afford it) environmental restrictions the process was pretty much strip the anodize, polish then clear coat for approx. $500 vs the cost of chrome and there was not a significant cost difference.

Crop Duster, I be thanking you for the information, I would certainly be interested in having the alum. grille anodized, when I contact them regarding the fender emblems perhaps they can give me an estimate of when, or if, they will be offering anodizing in the near future
