I was working on my truck so that I can install my CB and realized that my magnetic mounted Wilson 500 CB antenna won't stick due to the body panels being aluminum. Have any of you come up with a solution to using a magnet mounted roof CB antenna?
I pulled the rare earth magnets out of a bunch of old hard drives and assembled them into a circle. Then siliconed them to the underside of the roof via the third brake light access. I got the tip from here or YouTube. I do not remember which.
On my 2011 F150, I used a stake pocket mount and a Firestik, running the coax through the cab vent (with a drip loop). VSWR was not perfect, but acceptable.
Or you can purchase 3M magnet sleeve with adhesive.
I use either my steel toolbox for magnet mount or my larsonelectronics 3rd brake light mount. The aluminum bracket have a sheet of steel secured to it that allows for the magnet to secure.
Oh and no wind noise, perfect fit with all needed hardware and gasket. I own two of their mounts, top quality, fit & finish. I interchange hardware with magnets on them as needed and store it away out of the elements when needed. Super low profile and nearly unnoticeable unless pointed out.
Is it not possible to clamp to the horizontal mirror arms?
I know its an older truck, but thats how I have had mine in my 2004 for over 10 years.
I looked at the new ones and its still a twin strut design.
Should be pretty easy to fabricate a non-marring clamp.
