honestly an antenna (at least to me) is just an antenna, nothing special, now you will want to make sure its not too long/tall so you dont snap it off when you hit a bridge or low sitting object (ive done that before) as for charastics of antennas Im not sure if one is better then another as far as i can tell they are all mostly the same
I run a Wilson "Lil Wil" magnetic mount. It's only about 2ft tall, so it clears most low stuff. Should be available at most stores? or local truck stop for about $25.
BTW, on a CB, the antenna is EVERYTHING. Get a big radio on a junk antenna and it won't talk across the street. Get a cheapo radio with a quality antenna and talk for miles.
He gave me a magnet mount antenna, but the top portion of it is broken off also, so I'm not sure it's any good. I put a 4' Firestik on my Jeep, and it has always worked well. I'll just have to look at the various options.

Wilson stuff is good.
This is all good info. I have Ham equipment now but back in the day ran a Wilson 1000 - VERY good antenna on 10 /11 meters. As far as talk range you want a good ground plane as well. So on a pick up truck the best place is center of the roof. Mirror mounts suck for receiving and transmitting. But if your only looking to talk up to a mile +/- in hills they work for that. Fiber glass whips are by far the worst, dual even more so. All of it matters coax length/ whip/coil over all length etc. So if your a thief and cut one off a car/truck you want to solder an exact length of 50 ohm coax back the the magnet or its junk. I wont post the length and support this but you can find the needed equation on the web. if you know what to look for.
While on this subject if -=ANYONE=- has or finds a HR2510 in working order I will pay top dollar. Looking for one for my plow truck. Don't matter if its only 10 meters. I have the chip to modify it.

A Pro 510 will put out 8 watts peaked up. They need a heat sink added to the back of the case with transfer grease or will burn up the finals, but your are correct. screaming lil radio... most Unidens will out talk and walk on most if you know what potentiometers to turn. Why I want a HR2510 again rig is 15 years old at this point and smokes anything on the market today AM/FM/USB/LSB and with a chip goes way above and below CB band not a garbage like galaxy (they dont stay on frequency to use side bands but modulate like no tomorrow splashing the full band on AM) ...
Try a fully clipped/tuned 5-10, with just a frog hair of standing wave (Having none is just as bad as having too much) and Wilson 5000.....Yup...I was the town A-Hole.....
I have a pair of Unidens, 66 and 68, both been warmed over and do well. I have an antique President Madison base station at home. It's the older version without the digital clock.
Use to have ALOT of fun back in the late 70's-early 80's with this stuff. Not so much now. Friend had a base station growing up, Cobra 139, VFO, Varmint 850w linear and Moonraker 4 beams. Spend plenty of nights rais'n cain.

LOL my buddy still has his moonraker up and if you want a good laugh his Yeasu 1000D 5K Buck HF rig... is hooked up to it. Nice antenna. I have a 5/8ths wave on the antenna switch for the Icom. But I dont go to CB band often. Can find me on 27.555 LSB from time to time.Had/ have a galaxy saturn base station that splashes well to shut down any smart ****... But gave all that up when I got my ticket
You should go with a radio shack 102" whip(20$) a mount and spring along with coaxial shouldn't be much more than 30 or 40$s and that antenna will walk over anything short of a base station.
On my older '85 F150, I mouned a 4' fiberglass on the rear bumper behind the tail light so not to interfere with the tailgate. On my '05, I installed a 5' fiberglass ontop of the bed rail with a steel spring.
