I'm running drums all around on my '76 CJ7, I added a booster to make them power which is a great improvement, and not a lot of cash. You just have to keep them adjusted. If I were towing I'd go with front disc, which I have in my 66 f100 4x4, however I cheated, I swapped in a '79 shorty chassis. If it's a toy , I'd just add a booster.

I just pulled the front passenger wheel off of my 63F250 4x4 project truck that I am slowly assembling to gain access for installing my Vintage Air system. I noticed that the 3 countersunk screws are missing from my front drums. What purpose do those 3 screws serve?

Thank you,
Chad

Hi Chad, mine didn't have them either. My guess is if you pulled the whole assembly off by taking the spindle nut off, they would hold everything together. But clearly not necessary! Chris

The screws mount the drum to the hub. Better than the pressed together set up on my f100.

They indeed are not needed at this point in the trucks life - I *think* one of the other reasons was back at the factory 50+ years ago. The axles would have been waiting for installation on large racks and the drums *could* have just fallen off if it was not for some sort of retainer. GM used a clip retainer like these to hold the drums on the axles during storage.

The original Ford part number for the screws was

359189-S8

Later they replaced that part number with an Allen head version of the fastener.

352644-S

There is a dot of thread locker on the side of this screw, too.

What else were these screws used on? Every truck came with these whether 2WD or 4WD.
