Hi everyone! I’m going to be upgrading my truck within the next few weeks. F350 6.7 4x4 CC SB
this will be my first Diesel and I am hoping to get some opinions here on if the maintenance package is worth it. Some of the stuff seems like it’s just BS, like wipers, i can replace my own when they need to be, and don’t need a new set every second oil change.
it will be towing probably 15-25% if it’s life. No extreme weights but I will be going diesel not gas.
I am also not a mechanic but I do enjoy just working on my own vehicles doing basic things.
I’m 72 years old with a bad back and the only vehicle I work on is my F350 diesel.
My F350 CCSB I the easiest vehicle for a diy oil change. I replaced the oil drain plug with a Fomoto valve which make draining oil a piece of cake. I buy either Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5w40 or Shell Rotella T6 in 3 gallon boxes from Amazon for about $60. ‘The oil filter is easy to reach from underneath. I just punch a hole in it at the bottom ant let it drain empty into a bucket and come back 15 minutes later and replace the oil filter. I do oil changes at 5,000 mile increments
I drain the water/fuel separator and grease the U-joints at the same time.
Tire rotations get done for $12 at local tire store and they inspect brakes when wheels are off.
At 30,000 miles the 2 fuel filters should be changed. Easy to do. Just watch a YouTube video.
Most maintance packages will not be changing 13 qtrs. of oil and those fuel filters either. I doubt you are going to find it worth while.
BTW I'd change those fuel filter way before 30K miles.
Fords maintenance package includes diesels and you can get them in 5k, 7,500 and 10k packages. They also follow the maintenance book for rest of changes.

Thank you for the reply! I was already leaning towards not getting it, and this helps make the decision easier. One reason I was debating it was the fact I have never had a diesel before. But I’m sure with all the members here and sorting through the internet I’ll be able to get the majority of things done on my own.

Doing it yourself makes sense, and up until this 2017, I have done everything myself. however, I have one to 200,000 Km, 8 years, 8000 km heavy service interval. Non synthetic. I have to say it’s paying for itself simply on the oil and fuel filters, engine and cab air filters, wiper blades, yes they replace them if their streaking. Also, at 160,000 km, radiator flushing and new coolants(diesel has two sets), transmission, transfer case, differentials, and up to 200,000 brakes. Just in parts costs, mine is paying, also, they do tire rotations, full inspections, top off DEF, coolant, windshield washer fluids, etc. I get a car wash coupon, or a compete wash and vacuum as well with every service visit. I do a job where I don’t have a lot of time anymore, it’s working out for me, and it’s financed at 0% to boot.
I have the 7500/100,000 mile package and I love it. Drop it off and wait an hour or so and drive away. I also got an extended bumper to bumper warranty to 100,000 miles. Lots of spends things can go wrong and many of those things that can go wrong can cost you twice what you pay.
Do you need it? Maybe not. But I personally didn’t want to chance it.
My truck will be two years old in October and I have spent $3531.51 to date for maintenance. This includes one set of six tires.
I don't know how much the service plan would cost since I'm not eligible for it, but my maintenance costs are fairly typical, so that should give you something to compare with.
