I have a Ronin .50 Cal bullet and on FM it reduces the range by about 30 to 50 miles from the factory antenna. It depends on if you are driving towards the station or away from it. I drive on the highway a lot and have to park in a underground garage and not having the antenna hit on the beams is a good trade for me. I have SiriusXM for the road.
Remove the ball from the top of your stock antenna. Cut antenna down to desired height and epoxy/JB Weld, etc. the ball back on. Save your money and the ridiculous look of a rubber stubby.
I once had a rubber stubby antenna. It lasted a few months and one day it made a one way trip through the car wash. This has not been an issue in dozens of car washes since I cut down the stock antenna to keep it from hitting my garage door frame.
I bought a stubby recommended here when I didn’t want to deal with a failed antenna base. Reception is about half as good. I probably will go back to the full antenna sometime when I get around to it.

I like cutting down the factory antenna too. I cut it so it’s flush with the top of the cab and then solder the ball back on. Clears the garage door that way. I’ve done my last three trucks that way and never had any reception issues.
