2011 Edge Key Starting Issue
Trying to help out a friend, thought this may be a place to ask. 2011 Ford Edge. Has the key you still have to put in the ignition with the attached fob. Car won't start sometimes, if you replace the battery in the FOB it will start right up. Do these vehicles need that battery to start? Would a new programmed key fix this issue? Thanks.

Just a stab in the dark, but if the key and fib are separate, maybe the signals from the weak fob were confusing the car’s security computer.
Maybe leave the fob in the house and try to start it with just the key and see what happens

It was the older style key that you still had to insert that had the fob attached. She ended up taking it to the dealer, and they said the chip in the key had gone bad. New Key and everything has been fine.
