Hey guys, I have a concern about my truck. I have a 1997 Ford F350 7.5 liter. (460). I've been experiencing intermittent shifting issues, it would happen randomly when I'm driving or turning. The issue is the transmission has trouble shifting through all the gears when it happens, it will rev way up and then it will shift hard. Sometimes the speedometer and odometer will shut off, sometimes it stays on. The overdrive light would be blinking when it happens. When the issue occurs, I would whack the dash above the instrument panel and both the odometer and the speedometer would come back to life (if it's not displaying) and the truck would be shifting normal again. My radio/head-unit would also reset when I give the dash a good whack. Could it be a grounding issue, exposed wire, or connection issue? I replaced the VSS about 8 months ago I believe, I'll check again to see if it's still alright. I also had the PSOM checked out, according to shop they said that it was alright ( I don't think it is, or connection wise). I am hoping to here what you guys think. Thank you.
Sounds like you are losing power to the PSOM board and the radio. May be the plug connectors are bad.
PSOM have had parts that have broken away from the board and just touching to cause this also. Most of the this is the power input diode on the board. You say you have had the PSOM board checked out so they should have seen this if this is the case.
It also sounds like you have another problem at the transmission. Could be a bad TR sensor or if you have 4X4 you might have a non 4X4 filter in it or the filter has dropped.
Thank you for the reply, I'm going to try to take a look at the PSOM. I'll also check out the sensor you mentioned. It is a 4x4, hopefully it's something simple.
