Those two videos sound like belt slap. Cam phaser knock sounds different.

So, a little update in my case. I noticed that when the engine is fully warmed, the knock disappears at the engines lowest idle speed. I have noticed this a few times over the last few days.

I haven't heard it again since making these last posts, although I haven't gone looking for any trouble either.

I’ve been experiencing the same ticking sound (like a old type writer) from my 2019 6.2... annoying but runs like a champ.... Has anyone experienced catastrophic engine failure attributed to the cause of the engine “tick”... I hoping not and that it’s just a noisy gas engine.

I'm not sure if it was doing this when I bought it or not, but it has been doing it for a while now. I only notice it when pulled up to a drive-thru or sitting in my drive next to my other truck. This is my first vehicle with cam phasers, so I'm not familiar with w/e noise they might bring to the table. I do occasionally hear the lash adjusters / lifters doing their thing, but it always clears right up.

On cold start or after sitting for a few hours, it is smooth and silent. After it idles down to full-temp idle speed, it immediately starts doing this at random. It is directly related to engine speed, but SEEMS to go away with higher, off-idle RPMs. It sounds to me like it's coming from the center of the big end and it carries all the way down the drive line. Loudest between rear of motor and trans. You can't feel the knock though at all, everything feels as smooth as butter.

(Sorry about the cicadas. The sound is a LOT better on my S9 than my laptop. Oddly, I can't even pick it out using earbuds on my workstation.)

Thoughts? Does yours do this? Could this possibly be related to the CPV / Cannister Purge Valve or is that more of a ticking? Rod knock?
I know this is very old post, but I have the same issue and see that others are reporting very similar knocks…. Was wondering if there was any cause found, or is it still making same noise? I have a 2017 with 58K miles that makes this noise

Think I'm at about 28k mi. now and I very rarely hear anything now. It seems like only after a fresh synth oil change do I catch it from time to time for the first few mornings. I have completely dismissed it at this point.

...but I'm also now (allegedly) running an SCT canned tune.

I happen to be looking at a 2017 F350 at the local dealer. Local when new and serviced at the same dealership over the years. CARFAX report shows 5K mile oil changes like clock work. 33K miles.

Went to see it today and under the hood I heard this: listen past the higher level clackityclak. What do you think? Lifter? Doesn’t sound good to me then I have never had a gas Ford.

looking forward to input.

My 2017 with 65k miles has and does make every single noise/knock/rattle mentioned in these threads since 2017 or so. Truck runs like new, oil analysis was perfect, uses zero oil between changes and just simply does what’s asked of it. I’ve just quit worrying about the quirky noises these 6.2s make.

My 2017 makes this exact same noise and has done it for a couple years and 15kmi. Normally before it’s completely warmed up. I’m not concerned with it.

I'm on my 4th 6.2, and I agree, some of them just make noises, I guess it just comes with the territory of the ultra reliable 6.2. I have read on this forum that there are a few fixes for certain persistent ticks if it becomes too annoying to tolerate.

I have no idea what it is.
Have you ever figured out what was causing it?

I assume it's just IMRC, but unconfirmed. I really haven't had that much of an issue with it, only occasionally hearing it from time to time.

I have the same knock on my 2018 f350, I unplugged the two blue plugs for the IMRC to see if it goes away but it does not, also the knock is coming from the bottom of the vehicle by oil pan not near the top where the IMRC tick would be. I can’t find much information on the knock at all you seem to be one of the few that have the same knock as me. It starts a couple minutes after cold start and goes away when rpm’s increase. I’m starting to think it’s piston slap.
