I started striping the 460 yesterday. Lookie what I found when I pulled the intake off!! There were 3 other pushrod bent like crazy as well. They were all on the intake side???
Dang. I'm sorry that happened to you. I had the same thing happen once. Did the cam timing gear teeth shear off?
I didn't get that far. The builder told me to leave the water pump and timing cover alone. I guess so I dont mis-label the bolts. The cam looks to have slid backwards about an 1/8th inch! I can only assume that is not normal.
Holy buckets. That is not good. Don’t know much about 460’s but hopefully you avoided valve to piston contact...but bent pushrods are a bad sign. Good luck...I have had my share of issues with my engine builder so I feel your pain.
I've had something similiar happen once, only on intake side on an engine that had been sitting for probably 5+ years (maybe considerably longer). Varnished fuel was causing the intake valves to stick to the heads even if sitting overnight.
It sounds like a good argument for going the extra yard and removing the valve covers and maybe even intake, when preparing to roll over an unknown engine which is known to have sat for a long time.
