2001 V10 6.8 Question
I'm not very familiar with the engine and I'm definitely not a mechanic. I know enough to be dangerous

I was inspecting an exhaust leak that I suspect to be coming from the driver's side manifold, and I noticed this open port on the top of the engine near the oil dipstick.
What is this hole for?
As for the exhaust leak, it developed during a 500 mile drive/camping trip, pulling a camper last week. From reading and youtube, I understand that it's probably going to be caused one or more broken studs on the manifold. Still contemplating whether I try to tackle that project myself or just bring it in...
See the BIG metered air leak on your aftermarket intake air assembly? It's the open port on plastic air intake assembly.
A hose is supposed to go from that port, on intake section between air filter and throttle body, and that broken port on valve cover.
That broken valve cover port is cast into the valve cover. Correct fix is to get a new or used valve cover and buy a hose and connect the two ports.
Just a note:
Someone has had issues enough that they did a compression test on motor. Looks like 170 psi in cylinder 8.
