Preparing to change coolant and lower radiator hose. I was going to remove thermostat and replace housing prior to several fill/drain cycles. Will the housing seal without a thermostat in there? Any other advice?

What Beechkid said above ^^^^^^^.
. . . also, if mixing coolant yourself, use distilled water, and if it doesn't have a zillion miles on it and the cooling system hasn't been contaminated I bet a single dump/fill would be just fine for another hundred thousand miles.
Well it doesn't have a zillion miles, but what came out looked good.(10 qts) Flushed for @ half hour with tap water. I was able to drain @ 10 qts each time @ 1/2 capacity. followed up with 4 DI flushes, thermostat and lower hose change and final fill with Zerex G-05. Pretty sure all is good, not sure @ 100K miles.
