Changing thermostat and draining coolant

Hey all,

How much coolant do I need to drain in order to change out my thermostat?

I will be doing the job this weekend to try and fix an intermittant overheating problem, going with Ford Motorcraft part this time around instead of the Stant.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It will depend on how much of your coolant is above the thermostat. Usually it's not much though. Check your coolant level and compare it to the height of your thermostat.

That should give you an idea.
