Coolant temp issue
To start for about the first hour or so my coolant was running between 200 and 205 and the oil was within 10 or so degrees. After about an hour or so had to make a quick pit stop. I let the truck idle for a few minutes before I shut it off. Temp where good at this point. Started back up and the coolant was having a hard time getting to 190. It ran between the high 170s and high 180s. Even while climbing a long 6% grade the coolant barely reached 200 by the top. Oil got to about 235 but cooled right back down on the down side.
Now forward to coming home. Same thing coolant ran between 200 to 205 for the first hour or so and then we stopped for lunch. On the restart same issue. With temps.
Also, not sure it it is related but got a P0234 code and the dreaded wrench light after lunch going over Gaviota Pass. Cleared the code and the truck was fine in boost respect the rest of the way home.
Anyways, not sure about the coolant temp issue. Might it be the thermostat. I have about a 10 month old OEM t-stat. I am trying to think what would cause an issue like this after more than an hour towing. Anybody else have an issue like this?
Turbo may be in need of a rebuild..........not hard at all for a DIY'r --$250 in parts -- bearings, unison, seals, big housing oring, vanes, etc with some serious cleaning
It warms up a little higher at first, say 200° or so, then runs in mid 190s until it get shut down then restart.
I'm thinking the is starting to fail so it acts normal for a while then it opens to the fail position. If this makes sense.
I was thinking head gaskets maybe but I don't have any of the classic symptoms, no puking, no coolant loss and no white smoke.
