@pmuller Is there a way for the machine shop to mill down some 7 degree retainers to be the right ID?

Asking you because you're knowledgeable, but anyone else can throw in. If not, might reach out to a fraternity brother that owns a little salvage yard. Buy a whole Cylinder head. I don't want to, but I can't find anyone who makes these dang things. And my plan for taking them out of the 83 engine isn't gonna work.

Thanks!

Or, going off of @pmuller comment to @jem44357 in the Mushroom Valve thread, does anyone know what the spring pocket measures on 1985 300 I6? Would I have to have them milled out to fit the 942 springs? The 942 are 1.437" vs 1.4" OD with the 903s.

I am sure I can get Summit to swap me out if I pay the difference and buy the retainers and stuff from them.

Here was my chat with Comp:
Johnathan Martin: Hi Christopher. How can i help you?
Christopher: I chatted with someone last week about my 1985 Ford 300 I6 engine. I am having a difficult time getting retainers that will work. The engine originally had rotators on the exhaust side. All of the springs that came with my kit are the same height. Meaning I have been told that the exhaust rotator style will not work. The gentleman I chatted with said there was no offering from Comp that will replace what was there. None of the retainers offered match the ID of the spring. Someone else suggested that I use a Comp 942 spring. Would this be a possibility?
Christopher: Hi Johnathan, I think it was you and I that chatted last week about this!
Johnathan Martin: As long as you you have enough spring pocket for the spring to fit in, then yes, they should work fine.
Christopher: Hm. I can check with the machine shop. I can't seem to find a spec for that on a quick search. No issues with the higher spring pressure on the 942? I don't know much about cylinder head jazz, so I am trying to get the best solution possible.
Johnathan Martin: That spring has a little more spring pressure and more than what is necessary, but will work fine.
Christopher: Ok, great. So pretty much the only thing to watch for is the spring pocket? Everything else is good?
Johnathan Martin: That would be the only thing I would be worried about checking here. Everything else would be fine.
Christopher: If I went that route, I would be able to use the Comp 768 retainer, I believe. And then would need to verify whether or not my 601-12 valve locks would work too. I assume they would, since they mate to the valve, but, if not, what valve locks would I run with the 942 springs, 768 retainers?
Johnathan Martin: Yes, those would all work together just fine.
Christopher: Great, I appreciate your help once again.

The spring pockets are wide enough to fit the Comp 942 spring.
The Stock spring is about that same OD
Measure the pocket width yourself

I don't have the engine here anymore, it's 30 minutes away at the engine shop. I can call and ask them to measure, though.
