Turning to the experts here for recommendations on a good mid-priced paint brand. I plan to paint my truck satin black, nothing fancy or trick. I'm just trying to get this heap on the road and look decent, not win any shows.
Southern Polyurethanes. Excellent primers, single stage urethanes, base coats, clear coats; great customer service and tech support; amazingly reasonable prices. Far better quality than Eastwood.
They have a matte black single stage.
All SPI-epoxy primer with single stage black urethane.
I have been using Eastwood products on my truck. I painted my tailgate with their single stage satin black about 4 years ago, and it has held up well so far. This truck sits outside year round, so it has been exposed to the elements with no oxidizing or fading so far. Hopefully the rest of the truck will get paint this fall. Been doing body work all summer. I'm TIRED of sanding!
I've used several other Eastwood products, and have yet to be disappointed...
LikeTireDood I too used Eastwood's Single Stage Urethane. I used the Jaded Green over the High Build Self Etching Primer. Boy that primer STICKS to bare metal and sands beautifully. I fell in love with the Jaded Green after watching his '66 Mustang project. You can read about it here, here and watch a video of it here:
Ironically, the car is for sale right now on eBay. Only $174,850! It sold on eBay a few years back for a whole lot less than that if I recall correctly.
One word of advice however is that if you're painting your own truck be warned that getting any kind of metallic flake to lay flat and even is a chore! I can't speak to other brands really since I've only used Eastwood's products. I painted my truck with a non-HVLP gun and I think I lost 40% of the can to the atmosphere. I wish I bought a quality HVLP gun for a better, cleaner finish! One other tidbit is that you might consider mixing in a clear to the SSU to make the paint more glossy. It's "OK" without it. But add in 50% clear and wow, it's beautiful.
TCP Global has a nice line of "Custom Shop" paints including "Hot Rod Flatz" https://tcpglobal.com/pages/hot-rod-flatz-paint
There are maintenance issues with satin/flat finishes but I am sure you are aware of them.
TCP sells online and through ebay.
I too will be in the paint or primer stage in the coming months. I've been doing some research on the subject as well. This may sound strange, but Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes gets good reviews. I used their other line to paint my whole house.....good paint. But I was not aware they had automotive paint. Check your area to see if there is a Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes store near you.
Auto Body toolmart carries a kirker brand in kits, I have used on previous project and now my truck. Ive used their single stage and base with clear and epoxy primers. Fairly inexpensive and the biggest issues I have was due to my lack of experience. Practice makes perfect.

Sherwin Williams has been in the automotive finish business for years. The same S/W auto paint is also marketed under the Acme label, as well as Martin Senour at your local NAPA store. It's good stuff.
