I just upgraded from a 09 F150 XLT to a 2019 F250 XLT with the premium package. I was highly surprised to see that my rear view mirror wasn't auto-dimming.
When I look at the power fold mirror I also do not see any signs at it's auto-dimming. On my 09 F150 you could see the mirror had a darker section and then around the edge was maybe a 1/4" border that didn't auto dim. This mirror has none of those features. The mirror as I mentioned is the powerfold, has Bliss and also has the puddle lamps on it.
Has technology changed to where I can't tell that the powerfold mirror auto dims?
Here is from Ford's website
"PowerScope® trailer tow mirrors have power-folding, power heated glass, auto-dimming feature (driver’s side), LED security approach lamps, and LED side-mirror spotlights."
So it states the mirror is auto-dimming but I'm just not seeing the proof. If I also look at my drivers mirror and then the passenger mirror the headlights behind me look the same brightness.
Neither of your mirrors are auto diming. That's for lariat and above.
On the XLT you have an option to add the powerfold mirrors, which are standard on a lariat. I added the mirrors and as I've quoted above per Ford's website they state the powerfold mirrors auto-dim.

What style rearview mirror do you have? The basic non powered one with the ability to manually flip the switch for manual dimming? That is the only one available on XLT regardless of options. Not sure where you are getting from Ford your truck is auto diming as its neither optional or standard on the XLT. It could be added of you wanted but would require new mirror and programming along with the missing harness.
Keep in mind the option 54F for the XLT adds PowerScope mirrors to the XLT but these are not the same mirrors as found on Lariat and above (Part numbers are different, mostly due to the memory feature). There was also a very brief prior to November 2018 when you could add the driver assistance package to the XLT which did get you the auto dimming features, steering assist, 8" gauge cluster and a few more accessories. This option was rarely ordered and Ford announced that due to commodity restraints it would be dropped. Both the Driver's Assistance Package (96D) and Adaptive Steering (60A) options are no longer available on the XLT. I stand by my original statement that neither of your mirrors are auto dimming.
Power-folding, PowerScope® Telescoping, Power Glass Trailer
Tow Mirrors with Heat, Turn Signal, High-Intensity LED Security
Approach Lamps, Utility Lighting System (LED Side-mirror
Spotlights) (54F) (XLT only)
Base Lariat Mirror
Auto Dimming standard on base Lariat and above XLT Premium has no mention of auto dimming.

Hi - I already know that my interior rearview mirror doesn't dim as like you said it has the manual flip switch to angle up and down. That part I already know I need to replace.

My concern is the powerfold exterior mirrors.
See my revised post above. The auto dimming rearview mirror controls the drivers side external mirror. So you have neither as outlined above.
Interesting. I would have said that my side view mirror doesn't dim, but maybe I simply haven't driven enough at night to see it working.
If one has the said dimming feature, it’s very hard to notice or notice at all because it very quick and subtle.
One will notice reduced glare in the "drivers " side view mirror and the rear view mirror.
Kind of like polarized sunglasses 🕶.

On my F150 it was very easy to tell it was auto-dimming. I mentioned above that the mirror itself would be darker and you could see a border around it that was still the standard mirror to where if you moved your head back and forth between the border and the dark section you could easily spot the difference and that it was working. That is how I first noticed this feature wasn't working on my truck as there were no dark section on the mirror itself.
On my 2018 F350 Limited, my options list shows “Day-Night Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror” and the description for the side mirrors is “Body Coloured Power Heated Side Mirrors w/ Convex Spotter, Power Folding and Turn Signal Indicator”. Nothing about auto dimming for the side mirrors.
I don’t remember driving at night and having the side mirrors auto dimming. If I remember the winter right, I remember having to adjust my side mirrors out further because the headlights behind me on the highway were too bright. I know for sure the rearview mirror has auto dimming. In the summer here, you have to be out driving past 11pm or before 5am for it to be dark enough for the auto dimming to kick in.

Harness to add for mirror
Not to Hijack but, where can I get these diagrams. I need to know if there is a part number for the drivers side heated/cooled seat wire harness... dont ask☹
