But today we now know that the G05 also needs to be checked chemically or it doesn't protect the metal as well. We will always have some rust, the oil cooler prefers it minimized.
Yeah I was in a "What the hell did I do" state of mind there for a minute.
Truck is running fine. My next problem is I'm running out of daylight. Would leaving the distilled water in til I got off work tomorrow be alright? I will be driving it on short city distances.
WOW! Original Oil Cooler? (*read back you change it and flushed VC-9 10k ago). I'm curious about the continued engine gunk after the first oil cooler change. Feel like the first cooler takes the bullet and its minimal after that? How wrong am I? I have no idea about leaving distilled water in over night.
Yes about 10k ago I did an cooler rebuild. That was before headgaskets I might add. Honestly I don't think I removed alot of gunk. I'm actually surprised I didn't collect more. I collected the flushed coolant in jugs, clean. The high flow filter did an excellent job. That bowl the junk is in is one of my wife's favorite cereal bowls. Lol. Flushing the oil cooler I used a very large bowl because the flush exited from the lower radiator hose.
When I did the first flush I was completely new to the scene. The flush wasn't done like it should I might add. I may have it right this time. Who knows. Something is better than nothing.
But honestly TMT may be on to something about the gold. I don't think my previous flush was up to par though.
I'd like to direct your attention to the four-minute mark in the second video because this is something I don't see get much discussion about around here; pulling both block drain plugs and lower radiator hose, sticking the garden hose in the degas, and starting the engine and revving it. Seems like a great way to get some crud out of the block. I'm glad he saved his recommendation for Motorcraft Gold coolant until the end because he would have lost me early on.
I also think he fails by filling the system and topping off directly after the fore mentioned flush. There is no way to get all of the tap water out of the system just by pulling drain plugs and lower radiator hose. So I like to refill it with distilled water, run the engine and circulate, drain it, and repeat 2-3 times for good measure before putting the thermostat back in and doing the final fill with antifreeze and distilled water.
I realize the OP's oil cooler is fairly new, and I would have reservations about performing the above procedure if I felt like the flush wasn't done very well before the new oil cooler went in, as there's probably still crud in the system ripe for clogging. But since we're talking about flushes, and it seems like it's been a while, I thought I'd throw this in for reference.
My flush procedure was the same as the first time. Results were amazing clean as evidenced in the pic below. So maybe I did remove a little rust, but there's no way of knowing if I disturbed something I didn't get out the first time around that is now living comfortably in my oil cooler. I didn't notice any change in my deltas so the whole process was probably a waste of time and money. What can I say, curiosity and all...
